I rarely get the blahs.  You know when you wake up and feel down and feel like doing absolutely nothing?  Some people get that feeling after work, but my work energizes me.  Unfortunately, today I woke up feeling down for absolutely no reason.  It’s Sunday, so I dutifully did at least a little exercise and was supposed to talk to a client later in the day.  I kept thinking – man, this is not working.  I’m supposed to be a life coach on how to find JOY for heaven’s sake!

I have this great balcony that faces some beautiful trees so I sat there for a few minutes and mediated with my eyes open to soak in the beauty and peace.  Do you have a place like that?  Or an activity that helps quiet the mind for a moment?  My realization came that we, as humans, are mighty hard on ourselves.  When life isn’t quite where we want in our health, our looks, our business, our family life or our finances, just to name a few, we can really have some negative self-talk.  Why do we do that?  What makes us tell ourselves that we don’t deserve love, or we can’t be wealthy, or we aren’t good enough to get clients, or that great job we’ve always wanted?

We are so much more than that.  When you get the blahs – find your peaceful place like my trees or look in a mirror and then let’s both try an exercise right now.  Instead of the negative self-talk – repeat after me – I am worthy (pause – no thoughts!, take three breaths and let it sink in) – – – I am lovable (again pause with three breaths) – – – I am capable (pause) – – – I am rich in every way (pause) – – – I love my life (pause).  Personalize this and add in whatever phrases you need the most.

Most importantly, how do you feel after doing this?  I feel more connected, more calm, more expansive, and just sooo much better.  No, this won’t “fix” your life if you do it once, but it will shift your perspective right now.  I recommend 2 to 3 times a day.  When you get up and when you go to bed to start and end your day – but also when you have those blah moments.  It will only take a few minutes and you will start to see a shift in your perspective, your day to day mood and your life.  People around you will appreciate it and you will be in a much happier place.  Give it a try!  You can have nothing to lose but the blahs.
